Let Spring Training Commence!

It’s March, the weather is amazing, Let Spring Training Commence!

The end of February was filled with snow, ice and crappy weather. I was anxious to get back on the bike, but was stuck inside on the trainer. Don’t get me wrong, I love to ride, even inside, but there is something about being outside on the bike that just makes time fly. This past weekend, the weather changed and it was time to get back out.

It was an uneventful ride, but that’s a good thing. It was time to get the legs back into the swing of things. And also the hind quarters. I need to break my butt in again, and remember to apply the chamois cream a little more liberally.

About a year ago we had complete the same ride for the first time. Essentially Littleton to Parker. It took us four and a half hours that time. It was a long and difficult ride. What seemed like a fairly flat ride was filled will rolling hills and a couple steep climbs. This year it only took us three and a half hours, quite an improvement I think.

We have a lot to conquer this summer, some grueling rides. First up is the Elephant Rock Century, we’ve done this ride before and it’s not easy. Next for me is Ride the Rockies. This is going to be a long week of riding from Grand Junction to Westcliffe. 473 miles this year, should be a good time. Then the Triple Bypass, three mountain passes over 120 miles. Then the Copper Triangle, this will be a new ride and I imagine quite a challenge as well. Last up the triathlon. While I’ve not made a decision as to which one I’ll do just yet, this will be a difference experience that I’m really looking forward to.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
