The Eve of Ride the Rockies 2015

It’s the Eve of Ride the Rockies 2015! And I’m in Grand Junction, CO. I’ve driven through but never spent anytime here. I’m looking forward to this year’s ride because I’ll bee seeing new parts of Colorado, parts I’ve never seen before. It also looks like a challenging route, and day two lis a bit intimidating.

My parents drove me out here, and the drive went considerably faster than I thought it would. I barley moved today, which I don’t like, but I guess it’s good to give the body time to rest before a week or exertion. I’m not looking forward to being alone, but I make an effort to meet new friends and I know a couple of people who are riding.

I remember last year, this was such a big deal for me. Ride the Rockies, was a major dream I had. Now that I’m doing it a second year seems a bit routine. It’s still exciting though, and I know once I finally hit the pavement in the morning I’ll be in full on cycling mode.

IMG_3785We arrived at the headquarters site at the University here in Grand Junction, and the layout was perfect. Found a great spot of the tent and the best part is there is outdoor power. That’s how I’m able to charge up and post this now. We’ll be here for another night so I’m glad that I’ve got it all worked out. Can’t live without my technology.

IMG_3788Tomorrow’s ride should be amazing, I’m really looking forward to it. National Monument looks beautiful. We drove to the entrance today and it was awesome. I’m sure the inside has way more in store for me.

My plan is to hit the sack early, get a good night of sleep and really enjoy the sights. Day two is going to be the hard day, so I want to make sure I’m ready to climb the grand mesa.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.

Hi Jared, have a great week of riding. I have ridden the Colorado Monument loop quite a few times, I’m sure you will love it. They used to race around that thing in the old Coors Classic pro bike races in the 80’s. I just checked out your route this year, and I see your not coming thru Vail …. so we’ll have to visit another time. I’m keeping busy filming Vail Home Show, been having fun shooting cool aerials with DJ Phantom 2 with GoPro on Gimbal mount …. very smooth 🙂 keep the wind at your back …. ciao BW
