Verizon To Provide Free Runner Tracking For Baltimore Running Festival

Baltimore, Md. (August 26, 2016) – Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE) announced today Verizon will provide runner tracking for the Baltimore Running Festival for the next three years. Runners, family members and friends will be able to receive free tracking data via text messages to their mobile phone and posts to their respective social media accounts.

“Verizon is committed to serving the communities where we live and work, and we are proud to support a premier event like the Baltimore Running Festival,” said Roger Tang, president – South East Market for Verizon Wireless. “Integrating wireless technology into the race will enhance the race day experience for thousands of runners as well as their biggest fans.”

“Runner tracking is a top feature runners request as part of their complete event experience,” said Lee Corrigan, President of CSE. “Verizon’s support also enables fans to track the progress of their favorite runner on race day and reunite in Celebration Village.”

Alerts will be sent after a runner crosses over mats on the course that trigger the embedded timing chip in their race bib to send a signal to the event’s tracking system. Tracking registration will open during event week.

Alerts will be sent from the following locations on the course:

  •          Full Marathon:  13.1, about Mile 19.5, Finish
  •          Half-Marathon: 10K (about 6 mi.), Finish
  •          Relay:  End of each leg
  •          5K:  Finish

Verizon will also sponsor the Baltimore Running Festival’s official results website.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
