Sold-Out SLO Ultra presented by VisitAvilaBeach.com Welcomes More Than 1,000 Trail Runners to Central Coast

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – (September 7, 2016) – The inaugural SLO Ultra presented by VisitAvilaBeach.com is set to kick-off on Thursday, September 8 with the return of the Trails In Motion Film Festival at the downtown Fremont Theatre. Then on Saturday, September 10, the unique Race SLO-managed event, hosted by HomeFed and produced in partnership to benefit The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo, features four sold-out challenging trail run courses – 50 mile ultra, marathon, half-marathon and five mile hike – at pristine, private Wild Cherry Canyon in Avila Beach. Family, friends and fans are also welcome to enjoy a one-of-a-kind live Bluegrass Festival that is free to the public and features delicious Rib Line BBQ and Firestone Walker cold brews available for sale to help celebrate the athlete’s accomplishments.

Thursday’s Trails In Motion Film Festival highlights incredible documentaries celebrating trail running and will include meet & greets with film athletes Krissy Moehl (Mile for Mile), Caroline Boller (This is Your Day), Noah Cass (The Last Time I Heard True Silence) as well as director Myles Smythe (This is Your Day) and race director, photographer and storyteller Luis Escobar. A VIP reception, including beer, wine and appetizers will take place at 5:30pm with featured guests. Doors will open for general admission at 6:40pm. Tickets are $45 and $15 respectively benefiting The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County.

The Bluegrass Festival, held from noon to 5:00pm at the SLO Ultra finish line on Saturday, will feature The Mother Corn Shuckers and other local musicians on stage during and after the races. Hot, fresh Rib Line BBQ will also be served as well as local beer from Firestone Walker & Michelob Ultra, non-alcoholic beverages and hot coffee. No outside food or alcohol allowed. Dogs welcome, but must be on leash at all times; dogs are not allowed on the race course. Bring a lawn chair. Carpooling requested due to limited free parking on site.

“Our Finish Line Festival is going to be an epic celebration of our inaugural SLO Ultra and the 1,200  runners as well as our event sponsors, volunteers & staff including family & friends,” said Samantha Pruitt, Race SLO Founder & CEO. “The fresh food by Rib Line BBQ, the cold beverages including Firestone Walker brews and the live Bluegrass music will be the perfect ending to an incredible Endurance Town USA experience on the beautiful Central Coast!”

The athletes will be treated to an incredible experience as one of the first to traverse the private Wild Cherry Canyon thanks to various partnerships including trails operated by PG&E. While year-round access to beautiful coastal trails has been made publicly available by PG&E to trails such as the Pecho Coast and Point Buchon, the remainder of the course is on private land.

“We are pleased to partner with Race SLO and support an event that not only promotes a healthy lifestyle and exercise, but also shares in our commitment to this community by donating a portion of its proceeds to the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County. PG&E has been a strong steward of the property for more than 40 years and we are excited at the opportunity to showcase the lands in this unique way,” said Ed Halpin, PG&E Senior Vice President, Generation and Chief Nuclear Officer.

In addition at the SLO Ultra, The North Face gear will be the official participant swag along with collectible wood & leather race medals, awards for top three athletes overall in all races and age groups. The 50 mile race participants will also be awarded unique, inaugural SLO Ultra jackets.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
