TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Sustainable Tallahassee will host the Sixth Annual Trash Dash at Apalachee Regional Park on Oct. 29, 2016. The race, which features a 5k event, as well as a one mile family fun run and walk, acts as a fundraiser to support the organizations mission of promoting environmental stewardship and economic vitality in our community through education and collaboration. Those interested in participating can register online and via mail in form. In anticipation of the event, Sustainable Tallahassee is hosting two exciting events to help promote both the course and the mission of their organization. From now until race day, Sustainable Tallahassee is holding a shoe donation drive in conjunction with One World Running. Body Trac Fitness locations and Sustainable Tallahassee’s offices will be hosting donation bins for dropping off shoes. There will also be donation bins on site at the race. Sustainable Tallahassee invites more business owners to contact them about hosting a donation bin at their business. There will also be an opportunity for runners to donate old running trophies and awards on race day.

Sustainable Tallahassee has partnered with local endurance sports coaching company, Science of Speed, to present a seminar about running on a cross country course like the one the Trash Dash features. The event will take place at Madison Social on Oct. 12, where the Social Runners group will take off for a quick run at 7 p.m. The talk will begin in the Social Room at 7:45 p.m. following the run.

Sustainable Tallahassee is a catalyst for individual, group, and community-wide actions that save water, energy, and money, optimize the sustainable use of resources, and ensure a place that will still be special for our children and grandchildren.

“Going green is not limited to just recycling, and we’re so excited to see participants come out year after year to run and learn about how to make a sustainable community in all facets of their lifestyles and community,” said Jim Davis, executive director of Sustainable Tallahassee. “Running is a spectacular way to get out and enjoy the beauty of nature, and see why it’s so important for us to preserve our planet.”

This event is a partnership between Sustainable Tallahassee and Leon County, will also include other fun activities for the participants and their families.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
