Logan, Utah– Emmanuel’s Ride for Change begins October 1, 2016, when athlete, activist and cyclist Emmanuel Yeboah departs Dallas, Texas for Washington, D.C. as he shares his message of hope and determination for disabled people with the world.

ProForm®, inventors of the ProForm Tour de France cycle and other innovative equipment, is the lead sponsor of the charity ride.  Emmanuel starts at Richardson’s Bike Mart, 1451 W. Campbell Road in Richardson, TX at 9 am. Hundreds are expected to line West Campbell Road and dancers native to Ghana will be performing in vibrantly colored costumes prior to his leaving as a ceremonious sendoff.

Local cyclists will join him for his departure amid balloons, balloon arch and fans cheering him on.

He will stop in various cities along his 1800-mile route to spread his message to the general public. He will also visit elementary schools and read to students from “Emmanuel’s Dream,” the children’s book written about his inspiring story. Now, Emmanuel is riding to raise awareness and gain funding to build schools in Ghana for kids with disabilities. At the conclusion of his ride, he hopes to meet with President Barack Obama.

Emmanuel is a native of Koforidua, Ghana and was born disabled, with a severely deformed right leg, commonly seen as a curse in his home country. Today, with one functioning leg and one prosthetic, he fights to change that perception. His ride from Dallas to D.C. is sponsored by ProForm^®, the world’s leading brand for fitness performance and innovation.
His bicycle route begins in Texas and travels through Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Maryland before finally finishing 1,800 miles later in Washington, D.C. on October 25.

The public is welcome to ride along with Emmanuel throughout his journey.

In 2001, Emmanuel rode his bike 400 miles across his home country of Ghana with one leg, attracting the attention of the government and other highly influential people. Soon after, he was instrumental in helping pass The Disabled Persons Act in Ghana. Across the ocean, American doctors took note of his cause and gifted him a customized prosthetic leg. Never wanting to forget this offering, Emmanuel had several United States flags printed onto it.

Emmanuel has won several awards including the CAF “Most Inspirational Athlete of the Year” by the Challenged Athletes Foundation^®, Nike’s “Casey Martin” award, and the “Arthur Ashe Courage Award” at the ESPYS.
