Louisville, Colo. (Oct. 6, 2016)- Pearl Izumi, maker of performance cycling footwear and apparel, announces the launch of their special-edition X-Project cycling shoes to benefit the Amy D. Foundation at Interbike 2016. Only 200 pairs of these shoes will be made, with $100 from each pair sold going directly to the foundation. There will also be fundraiser jerseys and shorts for sale on the Pearl Izumi website.
This will be the first update to the revolutionary X-Project sole platform since its introduction in 2013. The change further improves on industry leading hikability and traction, without compromising pedaling efficiency. The shoe maintains several features from the previous X-Project model including seamless upper technology, unique Bi-Directional Boa closure, and hollow TPU lugs with co-molded rubber tips with an updated rubber compound for even more traction. The sole with a ¾ carbon fiber shank offers more toe and heal flex, while maintaining a stiff pedaling platform.
Amy Alison Dombroski passed away tragically at age 26 while training abroad in Belgium. She was a versatile cyclist with U23 National Championship titles in road, mountain, and cyclocross. In her short but full life, Amy touched the hearts of communities in the United States and Europe. Amy had a passion for life that transcended the sport of cycling; she loved to share this passion with the friends and family that surrounded her.
“We are proud to support The Amy D. Foundation and their mission to empower young women and help others follow their passions,” said Andrew Hammond, Global Brand Manager for Pearl Izumi. “Amy truly inspired as an athlete and a person and we are excited to launch this shoe that will help other young women follow in Amy’s footsteps.”
With Pearl Izumi’s donation from the sales of these limited edition shoes, jerseys and shorts, the foundation will receive a major boost to their operating budget. These items will be launched in September 2016 during Interbike and are being sold on a first-come-first-serve basis. Jerseys and shorts can be purchased on the Pearl Izumi site here: http://ift.tt/2dicChs. The shoes will also be available on the Pearl Izumi website at the end of October.
