Girls on the Run Tops The Charts at Rock On Runathon

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Girls on the Run of the Big Bend (GOTRBB), a local non-profit organization that seeks to help girls unlock their limitless potential and boldly pursue their dreams, was wildly successful at their annual fundraiser this past weekend at Premier Health & Fitness Center. The Rock On Runathon event engaged nine teams of participants who ran for five continuous hours to raise funds for girl scholarships and program development.

More than 70 participants found their happy pace for girl empowerment and were supported by more than 50 volunteers. Teams logged a total of 298.21 miles throughout the day for a total of $7500 funds raised. Off the treadmills, team members and volunteers participated in the Backyard Olympic Games, a lip sync battle, and air guitar contest. Participants and volunteers were treated to food and refreshments throughout the day.

“We are still feeling the superstar power of our participants and volunteers as we celebrate the completion of this year’s runathon,” Ericka McKibbin, executive director of Girls on the Run of the Big Bend shared. “Thanks to their giving spirit, we are able to make sure that no girl is ever turned away from our program and that we can continue to grow our reach in the Big Bend area.”

“Premier Health & Fitness Center is happy to support Girls on the Run of the Big Bend,” said Tonya Smith, programs & communications coordinator for Premier Health & Fitness Center. “Supporting the wellbeing of our community is important.”

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
