FINIS Introduces SwimEars® to Let Sound In and Keep Water Out

LIVERMORE, California – October 12, 2016 – FINIS Inc., a global leader in technical swimming innovation announces the launch of revolutionary earplugs designed to let sound in and keep water out. The SwimEars® were originally designed by Christian Dittrich and his team at Ear Labs in Sweden, where they spent over 1,000 hours designing, developing and prototyping the product to create an innovative, new earplug. The lightweight earplug simplifies swimming for both swimmers and coaches alike, easing the means of communication and increasing acoustic awareness. Unlike typical earplugs that block out all noise, SwimEars® make it easy for coaches to communicate with their athletes, and increase swimmers’ awareness of their surroundings.

“Our mission is to help swimmers protect their ears while keeping them connected to their environment,” said Dittrich. “We sought to improve safety in open water, yet make it easy for swimmers to communicate with their coach and fellow swimmers.”

The SwimEars® have proved to be successful in all elements, from icy cold winter swells in Sweden to the tropical surf in Barbados. The earplug design helps block water, cold air, dirt and bacteria to prevent ear inflammation and bone growth in the ear canal; the respective causes of swimmer’s ear and surfer’s ear. The product comes with customizable pieces to fit all ear sizes.

“It’s important for me to feel safe and comfortable in both the open water and pool, which entails being able to hear, and SwimEars® opens up a completely new dimension for this,” says Ear Labs partner and Danish Open Water Champion, Hans Henrik Heming.

“When I first learned about the SwimEars®, I knew it was a device that would fit perfectly within our product line,” said FINIS CEO and Co-Founder, John Mix, “At FINIS, our primary responsibility is to simplify swimming and the SwimEars® do exactly that for all swimmers and coaches.”

Six-time Ironman World Champion triathlete and legendary coach, Dave Scott, attests to the safety and performance of SwimEars®. “When I put it on my swimmers that I’m coaching, they can actually hear my voice,” says Scott. “The clarity of my voice is really succinct, and I can give them stroke instructions without the noise (of my voice) completely canceled out. This device is very multipurpose; this is not your regular earplug.”

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
