Etixx – Quick-Step Pro Cycling Team Valiantly Concludes 2016 Tour de France

Denver, CO – As the Official Sunglass of the Etixx – Quick-Step Pro Cycling TeamRudy Project is proud to recognize the riders and staff for their valiant efforts in the 2016 edition of the Tour de France. Through all 21 stages the team demonstrated relentless strength and perseverance, traits which earned them a stage victory and placed a rider in the General Classification Top 10.

The team began the Tour on a high note as Julian Alaphilippe held the White (Youth) Jersey for an impressive five days straight, followed by Marcel Kittel’s exhilarating sprint victory in Stage 4. Dan Martin also asserted the team’s dominance in the mountains, moving himself up in the GC standings and giving Etixx – Quick-Step the rare opportunity to not only ride for sprint stages, but also the overall win. History was even made when Alaphilippe and Tony Martin broke away from the peloton in Stage 16, riding 170 kilometers as a duo and at one point extending their lead to six minutes. Their efforts earned them both the Most Aggressive Rider award that day, a first in the Tour’s history.

When it was all said and done, Marcel Kittel earned the runner up spot in the battle for the Green (Points) Jersey and Dan Martin found himself in 9th place overall. This was a career best result for Martin, and was also the best finish for an Irishman in the Tour since 1992.

Like all cycling races, the Tour was unpredictable and brought the team some undesirable mishaps. During the final kilometers of the last stage, Tony Martin had to abandon due to injury, and a broken pedal followed by a flat tire rid Marcel Kittel of his chances to sprint in Paris. Although unfortunate, the team kept their heads up and concluded the race with nothing but sportsmanship and dignity.

Race conditions are unreliable, but the team was protected by Rudy Project’s top end performance and casual eyewear throughout the 21 stages. First debuted by the riders in early July, the Special Edition Tralyx XL performance and Spinhawk casual models feature Etixx – Quick-Step’s signature graphics combined with Rudy Project’s award-winning optical technology.

The Tour may be over, but the team is looking forward to the remainder of their season wearing what Cycling Active calls a “perfect 10 out of 10.” Grab your own pair of Etixx – Quick-Step glasses today!

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
