BOCO Gear Supports The ChadTough Foundation

BOCO Gear, the leader in technical performance headwear, supported The ChadTough Foundation at its third annual RunTough for ChadTough race last Saturday, September 24.  The ChadTough Foundation was formed in honor of Chad Carr to raise awareness and research dollars for pediatric brain tumors with an emphasis on Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). Chad, the grandchild of former University of Michigan football coach Lloyd Carr, was diagnosed with DIPG a few days short of his fourth birthday.  He fought valiantly for over a year before gaining his angel wings on November 23, 2015.

For BOCO Gear President, Kay Martin, the partnership is close to her heart, “The Carr family has done an amazing job of honoring Chad’s life and the impact he made on the world.  As athletes, the BOCO Gear team knows the power of uniting runners toward an important cause.  As a mother myself, and proud University of Michigan alumna, this cause is personal for me.”

The third annual RunTough for ChadTough was presented by the Ted and Jane Von Voigtlander Foundation, the Jones Family Foundation and Lear Corporation, and included a 5K as well as a 1-mile Fun Run (virtual or in-person race).  The event drew nearly 2,000 total participants, and the virtual event, a new component for 2016, saw more than 550 people representing all 50 states plus Germany and China.  The event raised more than $275,000, double the amount raised in 2015, with all proceeds benefitting The ChadTough Foundation, whose mission is to fund research and raise awareness for Pediatric Brain Tumors with an emphasis on DIPG.

“We are so thankful to BOCO Gear for the support,” said Tammi Carr, Chad’s mom. “It is because of incredible sponsors like BOCO that we are able to continue furthering awareness for DIPG and pediatric brain tumors.”

Jason Carr, Chad’s father, adds: “The University of Michigan is truly a family and has provided unwavering support for our family since Chad was diagnosed. We feel all of that support every single day as we work to build Chad’s legacy.”

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
