Big Bang Bikes and Pro Bike and Run of Pittsburgh Sponsor Pittsburgh Triathlon

PITTSBURGH – P3R named Big Bang Bikes and Pro Bike and Run of Pittsburgh as official bike sponsors of the 19th Pittsburgh Triathlon and Adventure Race presented by First National Bank, scheduled for Aug. 12-14, 2016.

As part of their sponsorship, the stores will conduct bicycle safety inspections for all participants registered for the Pittsburgh Triathlon. Prior to the event, athletes are encouraged to bring their bicycles to Big Bang Bikes or Pro Bikes stores for a free inspection starting July 23. On race weekend, both stores will have onsite presence at the Finish Line Expo in Point State Park, as well as on the race course.

“Our sponsorship of the Pittsburgh Triathlon is more than just a transaction,” said Glenn Pawlak, owner of Big Bang Bikes. “It is an investment into the triathlon community and an event that showcases Pittsburgh. Our bike mechanics will provide athletes with quality service and ensure they can ride safely at the event.”

“Our triathlon ‘PIT Crew’ will offer mechanical support leading up to and during the event” said Craig Cozza, owner of Pro Bike and Run. “Our four stores are excited to share our passion for cycling and running at this event.”

More than 750 athletes representing 20 states will participate in the 3-day event that showcases the rivers and the trails of Pittsburgh. Proceeds from the event will benefit Friends of the Riverfront, which  works to reclaim and restore the Pittsburgh region’s riverfronts for public use.

P3R is managing the Pittsburgh Triathlon for the first time this year and expanding the nonprofit’s footprint in the endurance industry. P3R successfully brought back the Pittsburgh Marathon in 2009 and is excited about the potential with the Pittsburgh Triathlon. For more information or to register, visit: http://ift.tt/2aa5x3g.

About Pittsburgh Triathlon & Adventure Race

The Pittsburgh Triathlon was created by Friends of the Riverfront in 1998 as a fundraising event that showcases recreational use of the rivers and trails. The Pittsburgh Triathlon, which is produced by P3R, includes the USA Triathlon-sanctioned bike/run/swim event as well as the Adventure Race, a bike/run/paddle in either a kayak or canoe. A Triathlon Sprint—half the distances of full-length Olympic-distance  triathlon competition—also is available to participants. The swim portion of the Triathlon is held in the Allegheny River, assuming conditions of the Friends of the Riverfront River Contact policy are met. The Pittsburgh Triathlon has achieved Green Certification by Athletes for a Fit Planet each year since 2010. About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
