1150 police officers to close roads at inaugural GFNY Indonesia this Sunday

NEW YORK CITY, September 29, 2016 – 1150 police officers are making sure that roads at the inaugural GFNY Indonesia on Lombok Island this Sunday are fully closed for the riders to Be a Pro for a Day. Athletes from around the globe are racing the 180km course with 2054m of climbing. While the roads are exceptionally smooth, the hot and humid conditions will make the up to 25%-steep climbs particularly challenging.

“I’m excited that GFNY has arrived in Asia,” says GFNY President Lidia Fluhme who will toe the line as well. “The GFNY here in Indonesia is the first of many more GFNYs we plan to develop on the continent. Cycling is booming in many Asian countries, which is reflected by the number of requests we receive to host a GFNY.”

“Lombok is rolling out the red carpet for GFNY riders from over 35 nations,” says GFNY Indonesia co-organizer, Tenne Permatasari. “We are working closely with the local governing bodies to provide a very safe and smoothly-running event. Senggigi, Lombok’s traditional tourist resort, is playing host to the race as the site for the start/finish line, as well as the expo, the welcome dinner featuring cultural performances, the parade of nations, and post-race awards ceremony. The beachside hotel, Santosa, serves as the race hotel and provides the ideal setting: overlooking surrounding sea, boats, islands and countless palm trees.”

Also on offer, the 80km non-competitive course. It’s a scenic route with several shorter hills for riders who want to be part of GFNY but aren’t up for riding the tough 180km course.

While only few riders are in the hunt for the overall win, there will be many aiming to finish among the top 10% of finishers in their category to qualify for a racer corral spot at the GFNY World Championship in NYC on May 21, 2017.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
