Sustainable Down Source Gives Back To The Next Generation

Sustainable Down Source, the fifth generation family-owned bulk down supplier and visionaries within the feather and down industry – having created water-repellent DownTek™ and carbon free DownTek ZeroPFC™ insulations – also have visions for the next generations.

The recent appointment of Ms. Caroline Zapf as Chief Sustainability Office and 2016 rebranding to Sustainable Down Source (SDS), a division of Down Decor that reflects the mission and dedication of the brand as a bulk down supplier, amplified focus on responsible business practices and opened resources for the company to participate in three programs that give back to children including, Ronald McDonald House Quilts for Kids, Parks4Kids and K.I.D.S. / Fashion Delivers.

The Cincinnati arm of Ronald McDonald House is a regional support system set up to care for critically-ill children and their families, while the children endure treatment at a nearby hospital, offering comfort and a “home away from home”. A total of 100 quilts created and donated by SDS has been delivered this week to the Cincinnati Ronald McDonald House for children residing in the House to keep.

Additionally, 100 down pillows created by SDS have been provided to K.I.D.S. / Fashion Delivers so that they may rest easier in the face of misfortune. K.I.D.S. / Fashion delivers is “a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization whose mission is to provide merchandise to people who have been impacted by poverty or tragedy.”

SDS has also donated $1000 to outdoors programs through Parks4Kids, presented by Outdoor Foundation and Outdoor Industry Association, encouraging exploration, appreciation and understanding of natural environments and resources. The supported programs are located in the communities of Litchfield, CT and Mapleton, OR as well as Then To Now, a local Cincinnati-based farming experience teaching kids the importance of agriculture and geology for which SDS was the sole donor, covering the funds.

Caroline Zapf, Chief Sustainability Officer at SDS says, “Our kids are our most important resources and biggest hope for the future. As a brand, we endeavor to not only set a benchmark standard in responsible business practices, but to also teach our future generations of the importance of sustainability and protecting our environment as well as supporting those in need.”

SDS will be located in the Solitude Room of the Marriott Hotel, across from the Salt Palace for Outdoor Retailer. OR attendees are encouraged to visit and enquire about their sustainability program, sales and more. As a leader in sustainable feather and down supply, SDS is forging the way for environmentally and socially viable insulation in both the fashion and outdoors space, along with their emphasis on giving back to communities in need.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
