TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Capital City was well represented at this past weekend’s USA Cycling National Road Championships, where three local athletes, as well as one trained by Tallahassee endurance sport coaching company, Science of Speed, had outstanding results. The championship event, which drew cyclists from across the nation, featured three events: a time trial, a road race and a criterium. The event took place over the holiday weekend in Louisville, Ky.
Jackson Griffin, Tallahassee local, came in tenth place in the time trial, eighteenth place in the road race, and nineteenth in the crit in the Junior division. Brian Sciba, also native to the Capital City, placed fifteenth out of 130 athletes in the Junior division of the road race event. Griffin and Sciba are members of the RedEye Velo Junior Cycling team. Connor Everett, also from Tallahassee, placed thirteenth in the Junior division of the criterium event. Johnny Brizzard of Pensacola also competed at the national level in all three events. All four athletes are trained by Science of Speed, which is based in Tallahassee and guides athletes in a variety of endurance sports at all levels across the country.
“We could not be more proud of these young cyclists as they go up against some of the best athletes in the country,” said Brady Irwin, owner and coach with Science of Speed. “I am lucky to have the opportunity to work with outstanding athletes from amateur to pro, and it is always exciting and rewarding to see those I am encouraging each day competing on the national stage.”
