DALLAS, Texas, September 6, 2016 – ROKA Sports, Inc. a Dallas-based performance multisport brand, today congratulated two of its pro triathletes on their victories at the 2016 IRONMAN® 70.3 World Championship in Australia this past weekend. Holly Lawrence and Tim Reed delivered incredible performances to reach the top of the podium among a field of world-class athletes from around the globe.
Holly Lawrence had a spectacular race, holding off the strong charge of IRONMAN World Champion Daniela Ryf, 2x IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Melissa Hauschildt, another ROKA pro triathlete, who finished second, and numerous others. Lawrence’s race began well, as she finished second out of the water on the swim and 45 seconds ahead of the main chase group. Lawrence quickly took charge early on in the bike segment, finishing with the fastest bike split of the day and a significant lead of 3:46 heading into the run. Her win caps off a strong build-up that includes capturing the women’s title at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon, IRONMAN 70.3 Vineman, and IRONMAN 70.3 Mont-Tremblant. This was her first world championship title.
Racing on his home turf, Australian Tim Reed also scored his first world championship title with an epic win. Reed finished the swim well in the primary chase group and rode a solid 2:06:12 for the bike segment to put himself in position to battle for victory on the run. For the lion’s share of the run, Reed ran shoulder-to-shoulder with IRONMAN World Champion Sebastian Kienle. Kienle’s multiple surges throughout the run appeared to put Reed on the ropes, but Reed persevered, coming back repeatedly, and finally bested Kienle in the final yards of the race. This win marks a major career milestone for Reed, who won the IRONMAN 70.3 Asia Pacific Championship in Cebu last month, and who has achieved 21 podiums and 10 IRONMAN 70.3 victories over the past five years.
ROKA Vice President of Sales & Marketing Ryan Dolan commented, “Holly and Tim are a huge inspiration for the company, and we could not be more proud of their tremendous accomplishment. The pride is shared by everyone at ROKA, and it fuels our commitment to deliver the best for today’s athletes. From training to race day, the dedication and drive of these champions is awe-inspiring. Achieving the breakthroughs that give them what they need to reach their potential is something we see as both an honor and a responsibility. We share their passion for performance with every product challenge we set out to conquer.”
