RAM Racing Brings Runners One Day To Run Chicago’s Famous Magnificent Mile

(Chicago, IL) For the third year in a row, Chicago’s most iconic boulevard, The Magnificent Mile®, will play host to a half marathon. But this year’s edition brings a new name, a new date, greater distance covered on Michigan Avenue than ever before, a $6,000 prize purse and additional features to enhance the experience for runners and spectators alike according to Steve Ginsburg, CEO of RAM Racing.

“Running down The Magnificent Mile is an unforgettable experience, especially when you have thousands of spectators cheering you on while Michigan Avenue is dedicated just to foot power!  There’s no other race like it on the Chicagoland running calendar,” said Ginsburg, “And that’s why we wanted to open up the race to male and female participants with the new RUN MAG MILE HALF MARATHON & 5K.”

The RUN MAG MILE HALF MAARATHON & 5K takes place on September 10, 2016 – the same weekend many runners training for fall marathons are slated to complete the half-marathon distance as part of their training programs. The race replaces The Magnificent Mile Women’s Half Marathon & 5K that had been held each of the last two years on Labor Day weekend.

“At RAM Racing, we are huge supporters of Chicago’s running community, and after acquiring The Magnificent Mile Half a few months ago we decided that we wanted everyone to have the opportunity to be a part of this incredible event,” explained Ginsburg. “Entire families and groups of friends experience Chicago, together, on a daily basis when they shop or walk down Michigan Avenue.  We wanted that same inclusiveness for the race.”

Bradley Borowiec, the inaugural chairman of the RUN MAG MILE Committee and General Manager at Zeller Realty Group (The Wrigley Building), noted that “by re-branding this year as RUN MAG MILE, we wanted to make it clear to runners just how unique this event is for The Magnificent Mile district. We’re very excited that the course will traverse more of The Mag Mile than ever before and to try to extend that special Mag Mile aura even further, we have created The Mag Mile Marketplace at the start/finish line area of the race.

“There, runners and guests can sample the premium restaurants, retailers and entertainment options that are part of the famous Mag Mile. Additionally, a weekend of exclusive offers before and after the race will position RUN MAG MILE as a real end-of-summer getaway.” Among other things, the Marketplace will feature interactive games and fabulous prizes from retailers such as Columbia Sportswear, the AT&T Flagship Store, The North Face and many others.

For the first time ever, the five fastest men and women half marathoners treading on the exclusive Mag Mile retail district road will claim a share of RAM Racing’s  $6,000 prize purse. The men’s and women’s overall winners are each eligible to grab a time bonus on top of the award money if they break 1:05:00 or 1:16:00, respectively.

Also new this year is a focus on corporate team participation from businesses surrounding The Mag Mile.  A runner himself, Borowiec was one of the first to sign on to the event’s Corporate Wellness Initiative which offers discounts and special benefits to businesses that field a team of runners. “Personal health and wellness are important parts of my life,” shared Borowiec, “and I have applied this passion and drive into Zeller Realty Group’s corporate wellness initiatives as a founding member of its Wellness Committee. The Wrigley Building is actively promoting the race through our Health Club, social media initiatives, building events, our fellow colleagues, friends and family so more people can enjoy the event and stay healthy!”

Registration for The RUN MAG MILE HALF MARATHON & 5K is currently open. All runners will receive a stylish long sleeve technical tee in men’s or women’s cuts. Half marathon finishers receive a collectable medal featuring iconic Mag Mile architecture.  Cost for registration is $44 for the 5K and $94 for the half until August 22 when the price will increase.

The RUN MAG MILE HALF & 5k is proud to support two charities at this event. The Half Marathon will support American Cancer Society and the 5k will support The Chicago Help Initiative.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
