PORTLAND, Ore. – On Sunday, Oct. 9, I Got Legs founder Adam Gorlitsky will become the first paralyzed man in history to walk in the Portland Marathon. He will also be participating in the Portland Marathon Kids Fun Run & Fitness Festival, Saturday, Oct. 8 at 8 a.m.
“Portland Marathon is very excited to have Adam walk with us this year,” said Race Director, Les Smith. “his story and energy is truly inspirational,” Smith said.
Gorlitsky gained national attention this past April as he became the first paralyzed man to complete South Carolina’s Cooper River Bridge Run. His supporters include Marvel movie stars Anthony Mackie and Chadwick Boseman, as well as The Late Show’s Stephen Colbert.
Using a robotic exoskeleton, he’s affectionately named The Betty Carlton, Gorlitsky participates in races around the country to foster awareness for his I Got Legs movement, the non-profit he founded designed to help bridge the gap between what it means to be disabled and able-bodied.
The Portland Marathon is a part of Adam’s One Million Steps to a Cure campaign, which was created to help raise awareness for spinal cord injuries. For more information about his foundation, visit www.igotlegs.org
