LOS ANGELES – July 07, 2016 – Aquatic Director Susanna Lubinsky of Griffin Club, Los Angeles’ newest family, social, and athletic club, offers knowledge on how to ensure safety while swimming, measures to prevent any possible swim-related injuries, and general swimming related information to keep in mind while exercising in the water as the summer heat starts rolling in.
When it comes to eating before working out or swimming, Lubinsky recommends eating complex carbohydrates to give the body proper fuel to perform, as well as staying properly hydrated and maintaining a consistent high protein diet.
In order to prevent common swim-related injuries, Lubinsky encourages low impact, full body workouts along with core strengthening and cross-training exercises. She also emphasizes allocating proper rest time in order to fully recover.
General swim safety tips to be aware of are to float on your back as opposed to eggbeater kicking to prevent overexertion of energy while swimming and to practice rhythmic breathing in order to swim a long distance without exerting excess energy.
In summary, swimming exercises offer a variety of health benefits including burning calories, boosting metabolism, toning and firming of muscles and building endurance and cardiovascular fitness, when proper techniques are utilized.
ABOUT SUSANNA LUBINSKY
Susanna Lubinsky tries to start each day in the water – preferably surfing. Susanna has a long relationship with the water. Legend has it that she began her swimming career as a baby in the bathtub at 6 months old, and went from there to an elite competitive swimming career that spanned 16 years. Surfing has also been a large part of Susanna’s focus and career in the water. Although never competing, it motivates her and has allowed her to form a strong connection to the water.
Susanna has taught swimming for over 16 years to a range of different students: from autistic children, to the elderly or injured, and all the way to competitive swimmers looking to hone their skills. She holds three tenants to her teaching- her interest in connection to breath, understanding principals of hydro-dynamics, and finding the most efficient path to movement.
