AUSTIN, Texas, September 27, 2016 — Last weekend, more than 1200 participants took part in the 6th Annual Kerrville Triathlon Festival in beautiful Kerrville, Texas. The course featured a swim in Nimitz Lake, a bike ride through the Texas Hill Country, and a run along the Guadalupe River. Despite heavy rain Sunday afternoon, the event was not altered or canceled. Soaked staff and volunteers powered through the elements to ensure athletes remained safe while having a memorable experience.
The Kerrville Triathlon Festival took place from Friday, September 23, to Sunday, September 25, and featured eight different events, including Sprint, Quarter, Half, Aquabike, Relays, and a Kids Fun Run. It was the fifth and final event of the Texas Tri Series.
Todd Gurlach (1:05:54), of Austin, won Saturday’s Sprint event while Michelle Cleveland (1:10:00), also from Austin, won the female division of the Sprint. Sunday’s winners and their times follow: Quarter – female winner, Alicia Allen (2:24:09), male winner, Nathan Poland (2:18:06); Half – female winner, Sierra Snyder Elcock (4:45:45), male winner, Andy Lee (4:24:47).
“Kerrville was a great venue to host this event; plus, despite the rain, the folks at High Five produced a well-organized, fun, and well-supported event,” said Wayne Lauritzen, who the Half distance in 5:02:11. “This race was a great way to end the season and I really look forward to competing in the Texas Tri Series again. Thanks High Five!”
Participants received a medal, shirts, free post-race massage, custom water bottles, swim caps, beer, snacks, and post-race fajitas. Additionally, professional timing and photography, as well as a great volunteer crew and hundreds of supportive spectators helped make this triathlon a success.
The Kerrville Triathlon Festival would like to thank all of the volunteers for coming out, sticking around during and after the rain, and making today’s event as great as it was. Your willingness to get up extra early, continue working through the storm, and cheer on every participant truly made a difference in the overall experience. The Kerrville Triathlon would also like to thank our sponsors H-E-B, Clif Bar, Red Bull, The City of Kerrville, Kerrville Convention and Visitors Bureau, and Ben Phillips, Real Estate Advisor for Engel and Volkers Austin.
