A Late-Season Destination Race in Paradise

Cozumel is not only a beach-goer’s paradise, but it’s also a seasoned IRONMAN host city that attracts athletes from around the globe. Off the coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, this vibrant island boasts more than 14 miles of stunning coral reefs, providing ample opportunities for snorkeling and diving enthusiasts eager to explore its underwater treasures. In addition to the breathtaking marine life, visitors can indulge in the rich cultural heritage found in the archaeological ruins scattered throughout the island, showcasing the ancient Mayan civilization. The lush landscapes also feature a national park, where nature lovers can hike through tropical forests and encounter diverse wildlife. With its endless expanses of turquoise water, pristine white sandy beaches, and a welcoming atmosphere, Cozumel truly offers an unforgettable experience for both adventurers and those seeking relaxation alike.

The swimming stage of IRONMAN Cozumel is one of the most spectacular in the world. The great visibility of water, which boasts crystal-clear conditions, and the huge amount of underwater life that accompanies the athletes throughout the course—including vibrant fish, colorful corals, and occasionally even graceful sea turtles—turn this stage into one unforgettable experience. As participants glide through the warm, inviting waters, they are not only challenged by the course but also mesmerized by the natural beauty that surrounds them, making every stroke a blend of competition and exploration, ultimately creating lasting memories that extend beyond the finish line.

Athletes will do 3 laps around the island to complete the 180 kms (112 miles) of the bike course. This scenic route not only showcases the stunning Oceanside roads but also meanders through the great hotel zone, offering breathtaking views of luxurious accommodations, as well as a taste of the vibrant city atmosphere. Riders can expect to encounter the warm ocean breeze and picturesque landscapes that surround them, making every pedal stroke enjoyable. This fast and beautiful route guarantees an exciting bike stage, ideal for those who want an IRONMAN PR, while also providing an opportunity to soak in the incredible sights and sounds of the area, fueling their determination as they push towards their personal best.

The run course is flat and passes through many of Cozumel’s signature sites, including its beautiful waterfront walk, vibrant downtown main plaza, and charming historic neighborhoods adorned with colorful facades and local art. As participants navigate this scenic route, they are greeted by the enthusiastic cheers of hundreds of spectators who fill the sidewalks, waving banners and offering words of encouragement to inspire the athletes to give their best effort. The atmosphere is electric, with the sounds of excitement and the vibrant culture of Cozumel surrounding everyone. Runners know that they are not just racing against the clock; they are also racing through the heart of the island. The finish line, a symbol of achievement and perseverance, is located at the City Hall plaza in downtown Cozumel, where friends and family eagerly await to celebrate the athletes’ incredible journey and hard work.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
