Humana 5K Tune Up Run Series Returns This Fall

SAN DIEGO – September 14, 2016 – The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series and Humana today announced the return of the Humana 5K Tune Up Run Series. This set of events, which launched in 2015, is designed to encourage healthy, active lifestyles, and inspire runners and walkers of all abilities. Through these races, Humana and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series are encouraging communities to get moving and achieve their best health. Each 5K race will be free and open to the public.

“At Humana, we believe that great things are ahead of you when your health is ready for  them,  and the Humana 5K Tune Up Run Series offers the perfect opportunity to get out, get active and meet others who are doing the same,” said Jennifer Bazante, Vice President of Marketing for Humana. “We’re looking forward to supporting and celebrating all participants who come out and take part in these races across the country.”

The Humana 5K Tune Up Run Series will take place this fall in five select cities including:

  • Baton Rouge, LA – Saturday, October 8 at North Boulevard Town Square
  • Atlanta, GA – Sunday, October 16 at International Plaza
  • Hollywood Beach, FL – Saturday, November 5 at Charnow Park
  • Knoxville, TN – Sunday, November 20 at World’s Fair Park.

A fifth location will be announced at a later date.

In light of recent flooding in Baton Rouge, Humana is providing support and resources locally, partnering with the community to aid local relief efforts. In addition, through Humana’s partnership with the mobile fitness app Charity Miles, anyone across the country can participate in a virtual 5K to benefit the recovery effort in Louisiana. Humana will donate $1 for every virtual 5K run through Charity Miles. To learn more, visit: http://ift.tt/2cedky3

“We are thrilled to help coordinate the Humana 5K Series again this fall,” said John Smith, Senior Vice President of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “Participants can once again expect the same upbeat experience with live music along the course, medals and a finish line festival. This is a great opportunity for both new and seasoned runners to run a free 5K with the goal of taking on a longer distance.”

Humana is also partnering with their well-being ambassador, Derek Mitchell, who made a name for himself in 2015 when, as a 625-pound man, he made a life-altering commitment to change his health for the better.

Using 5K races as motivational events to improve his health, Mitchell set a goal of participating in a 5K race every month in 2015. In doing so, he ultimately ended up participating in over 20 races and losing nearly 100 pounds.  This year, Humana is supporting Mitchell in his 2016 goal of participating in 30 5K races.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series is known for filling miles of roads with music and entertainment at 30 destination events around the world every year. Starting with an interactive Health & Fitness Expo, the participant experience at a Rock ‘n’ Roll weekend is second to none.

From the world-class, start-line production to the nonstop, on-course enthusiasm provided by miles of entertainment and cheering spectators, every participant feels like a winner on race day. Each race weekend concludes with a finish-line festival and concert performance by some of the hottest artists, with past headliners like Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Aloe Blacc, Pitbull, FloRida, Sheryl Crow and Bret Michaels.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
