Getting Back into Jogging

After a summer dedicated to cycling, I’m recently getting back into jogging. I have to say I’m not exactly enjoying it. Before the summer I was running at least once a week maybe more. I gave it up to focus on the many cycling events that I participated in. But with the weather changing and the urge to do a triathlon, it’s something I have to resume.

I spent a little time on the treadmill and gotten a few miles in outdoors. Both are equally painful. Like cycling, so many are passionate about running, but I’m having a hard time seeing how they get there right now.

What I find fascinating is my aerobic capacity. My energy level is good out there, but my body is hurting. The other night I was on an hour jog, and as I approached the end I felt good, like I wanted more exercise. But my legs were ready to fall off. The next day the were sore, especially my ankles.

And lets talk about speed. I’m slow, really slow.

I know the more I continue to run the more my body will adapt, but I have to admit getting there is no fun at all. I plan to get in at least one run per week and see how I progress.

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
