Endurance Athletes Offered Chance to be Champions for the Hang Tough Foundation

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—The Hang Tough Foundation, a Tallahassee-based non-profit that serves families whose children have been affected by chronic or life-altering illness or special needs, has launched their Hang Tough Champions program. Endurance athletes participating in running, cycling and triathlon events will now be able to complete fundraising for the charity during their training. These generous and enthusiastic athletes will earn the title of Hang Tough Champions.

In return for their fundraising efforts, Hang Tough Champions will receive a Hang Tough Tech Sport Shirt or Jersey, fundraising materials and resources, a customizable fundraising web page and coach, as well as a personal thank you note from a Hang Tough Hero, a child affected by chronic illness or special needs.

Fundraising opportunities and thresholds vary by event distance, and each come with their own customized package of benefits.

“Our foundation has seen a lot of interest and support from the endurance sports community, so this seemed like a natural fit for our fundraising efforts,” said Janelle Irwin, president and founder of the Hang Tough Foundation. “The dollars raised by these athletes during their training will give us the crucial support we need to ease the stress that our Hang Tough Hero families are facing and combat the challenges of chronic and life-altering illness.”

About

Growing up in Colorado you can't help but love the outdoors. Something magical happens with 300 days of sunshine and the Rocky Mountains in your back yard. My athletic endeavors started on the bike, I would get out and ride whenever I could. In 2011 I moved to Oxford, England for work. I missed the sunshine and mountains, but discovered my passion for running. When I moved back to Colorado I started combining cycling and running, so it was only natural that I started competing in triathlons. I took second place at my first sprint, and caught the bug. Today I'm training for my fourth Ironman.
