Credentials now available for San Francisco Triathlon at Alcatraz

WHO: 

All media are invited to Tri-California Events’ 2016 SF Triathlon at Alcatraz on August 21 in San Francisco.  These inspiring athletes range in age from 14-77 years old, some even traveling from as far as Thailand to check off their bucket lists. Among the 900 registered participants there are many engaging human interest stories!  Here are a few:

• Former MLB player & ultra-runner Eric Byrnes is ready to race
• 77 year old has been doing this type of race for 27 years!
• Father/Son “Team Frankie” celebrates 20 year cancer remission
• Paralympian & CAF athlete returns to his favorite triathlon
• Honeymooners celebrate their recent nuptials while racing 
• 37 year old woman trying to break away from diagnosis of MS

WHAT: 

The iconic SF Triathlon at Alcatraz begins with a boat jump into the chilly waters of the San Francisco Bay. Brave swimmers race 1.2 miles from historic Alcatraz Island to the shores of beautiful East Crissy Beach, then tackle a hilly 23 mile bike leg and finally they will run 6.1 scenic but excruciating miles along coastline Battery to Bluffs trail, making it one of the toughest runs. The course is designed by athletes, for athletes, to feature the city of San Francisco and local communities, clubs and businesses for their amazing qualities.

6:00am  Boat boarding deadline for media: Pier 3

7:00am  Race Start

WHERE: Alcatraz Island & Crissy Field, San Francisco, CA

WHY:

Known for its strong currents, icy waters and sharky territory, the 1.2 mile swim from Alcatraz Island to Crissy field will challenge anyone. This iconic event will allow all media to publicize the highly competitive and recreational sport of triathlon. Media will have the opportunity to photograph the event & interview the participants.
