(Salt Lake City, Utah, August 4, 2016) — Altra Footwear, the innovative running footwear company, is celebrating its 5-year anniversary by hosting meet and greet sessions with two of its champion athletes and serving a giant chocolate cake at Outdoor Retailer Specialty Market in Salt Lake City.

Altra athlete Jeff Browning set a new world record for fastest combined time of two brutally tough 100-mile trail races separated by just three weeks. Browning’s combined time for his third place at Western States Endurance Run and HardRock 100 shattered – by one hour 20 minutes – the previous record.
Jeff has 14 100-mile wins, including first place at the 2016 Free State 100K, a course record: first at the 2016 HURT 100 in Oahu, Hawaii; third place at the2015 Ultra-Trail Mount Fuji, a 105-miler in Japan; and first place at 2015 Ultra Fiord 174K in Patagonia, Chile.
Jeff found running naturally by roaming free as a kid, exploring his family’s 700-acre farm in Missouri. No matter the weather — he was always moving. From a young age his grandfather instilled in him a deep passion for the outdoors and the rhythm of the seasons. He sees running through the wild and connecting with nature as pure and simple — primal. It’s a meditative experience. In a fast-paced, high-tech, always-connected society, trail running offers a moment to unplug and reconnect with wild places. He resides in Bend, Oregon where he balances his time between mountain running, freelance graphic design, online endurance coaching, and a dedicated family man to his beautiful wife and three kids.

At the legendary Western States Endurance Run in June 2016, Altra athlete Ian Sharman continued his streak of seven consecutive Top 10 finishes in 7 years. His goal is to be the first ever athlete to achieve a Top 10 finish in his first 10 attempts at this legendary 100-mile race through the Sierra Nevada mountains from Squaw Valley to Auburn, California. This August, Ian returns to the iconic Leadville Trail 100 to defend his title and challenge for his third win.
Ian has been racing around the world since 2005, totaling over 200 ultras and marathons in every type of weather and on all terrains, and he’s won around 50 races of marathon distance or longer. He’s been a professional ultra runner and ultra coach for 5 years, working with some of the biggest names in the sport and coaching winners of both Western States 100 and the world’s largest ultra, Comrades, in South Africa. He’s best known for racing 100 milers and for having a strong focus on power-hiking on mountain races. He holds the fastest time in a trail 100-mile race in the world — 12 hours, 44 minutes for Rocky Raccoon in 2011. UltraRunning magazine has voted him as high as 2nd in its annual Ultra Runner of the Year rankings in 2015.
